The World Customs Organization (WCO) is an independent intergovernmental body, established in 1952 as the Customs Co-operation Council (CCC) with the goal of enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of customs administrations. Today, the WCO represents 183 jurisdictions that collectively process approximately 98% of world trade.
The WCO develops international standards, fosters cooperation, and builds global capacity to facilitate legitimate trade, secure fair revenue collection, and protect society. It also provides leadership, guidance, and support to Customs administrations staff.
As the global centre of customs expertise, the WCO is the only international organization with competence in customs matters and is globally recognized as the leader of the international customs community.
